Exploring Korean Convenience Stores With a Toddler: Our Favorite Snacks
If you’ve ever been to Korea, you know that convenience stores here are a whole different world compared to what we’re used to back home. They’re not just a place to grab gas station snacks — they’re mini treasure troves with everything from hot meals to kid-friendly treats. Today, we’re taking you along with us on a little family adventure to a nearby GS-25!
Why Korean Convenience Stores Are So Unique
In Korea, convenience stores are a part of everyday life. They’re open 24/7, located on practically every corner, and stocked with way more than chips and soda. You’ll find microwavable meals, ready-to-eat gimbap (seaweed rice rolls), fresh fruit, coffee, ice cream, beauty products, and even toys. For families, they’re lifesavers — whether you need a quick snack between errands or a fun little outing.

Best Korean Convenience Store Snacks for Toddlers
Our toddler loves tagging along, mostly because she gets to pick out her own “special snack.” Her current favorites:
- 🥛 Soy milk (12g of protein and she’s obsessed!)
- 🍙 Mini rice balls she can actually hold herself (she loves anything with eggs + ketchup)
- 🍓 The seasonal fresh fruit
- 🍎 Apple jelly pouches
- 🍠 Dried Korean sweet potato sticks
The best part? The stores always rotate new seasonal items, so it feels like a mini adventure every time.
Our Parent Favorites (Snacks + Drinks)
When we’re just stopping in for a quick drink or treat, I usually rotate between:
- Dr. Pepper Zero (a favorite in the US, so I was pumped when they added it shortly after we arrived)
- Chilsung Cider Zero (basically Korean Sprite Zero)
- Milkis (milk soda- don’t knock it til you try it!)
- Drink pouches + an ice cup (I love the virgin mojito and kiwi juice pouches)
- Pringles (lots of unique flavors [Rosé Tteokbokki is a favorite] and I’ve liked these more than the other chip brands I’ve tried)
- M&Ms Bars (do they have these in the US?! I’m obsessed, especially with the almond)
- Milka Oreo Bar
- Dwaeji ice cream bar (a vanilla popsicle with chocolate cookie coating + strawberry filling)
When we’re looking for more of a meal, we love to build a more protein dense (but still super calorie dense 🫣) ramyeon (or ramen in the US):
- Choose a ramyeon flavor (Some favorites are Shin, Ottogi, + Japagetti).
- Choose your mix-ins
- Chicken breasts (pre-cooked so just rip it up + add with the water to heat)
- Sausages (also pre-cooked)
- Soft boiled eggs
- Kimchi
- Mozzarella cheese (not for me, but super popular)
- Microwave rice (if you’re trying to carbo load)
- Pull up a translator app for the instructions 😂 (the convenience stores usually have boiling water or microwaves + a prep area)
If you’re visiting Korea, I totally recommend the Ramyeon Library in Hongdae. It’s a massive CU convenience store with nearly every ramen brand and mix-in you can think of. To add to the experience, you get to eat on giant cup noodle tables.

Why We Love Bringing Our Toddler
Visiting a convenience store might sound ordinary, but it’s a surprisingly fun family outing here. Our toddler gets independence choosing her snack, we get to try new foods, and it’s a glimpse into daily Korean life that feels really special. Sometimes, we even sit outside on the little patio tables and turn it into a mini picnic.
Would You Try It?
Korean convenience stores are simple, affordable, and full of surprises. If you’re visiting Korea (or anywhere in Asia) with kids, don’t skip this experience — it’s one of those small but memorable parts of daily life that makes family travel extra fun.
